Indiana's Leader in Outpatient Care has Just Gotten Better
In a move that will mean more convenience and greater access
to therapeutic services for area physicians and their patients, the
therapists at Orthopaedic Associates have joined forces with Prorehab, PC.
In April, the physical therapy department of one of Evansville's orthopedic
practice officially became part of ProRehab, PC.
"Orthopaedic Associates is a well-respected provider of
physical therapy with a 20-year history of care for patients in the
tri-state area," says Pat Wempe, co-owner of ProRehab. "We are
extremely pleased to welcome their quality people and capabilities into our
organization." As head of Orthopaedic
Associates' physical therapy department, Bob Tank, PT, ATC played a key role
in making the merger happen. He joins ProRehab as co-owner.
"ProRehab has earned a reputation for excellence," says Bob. " They
consistently deliver a high quality of outpatient care through a network of
advanced facilities that meets the needs of referring physicians and
provides ready convenient access for patients."
As a result of the merger, ProRehab will take over the
operation of Orthopaedic Associates' physical therapy facilities at 533 West
Columbia Street and in the West Medical office Building on the campus of St.
Mari's Medical Center The two new locations are complemented by the
main office on Professional Boulevard and treatment centers in Vincennes, on
the campus of Welborn Clinic down-town, and inside Welborn Clinic in Reo.
This brings ProRehab's total number of offices to six.
Same people, now part of a larger network of therapeutic
resources. "We are excited about this new potential," say Pat Wempe.
"As always all ProRehab locations welcome referrals from all physicians."
While the two new locations will be staffed by the same
people as before, changes in operations are planned that will enhance
their ability to deliver quality care to a greater number of patients.
"With the efficient information
systems that ProRehab has develoed, therapists can spend more time on direct
patient care," say Bob. "They can also better monitor patient progress
for successful outcomes." Bob notes
that ProRehab's commitment to continuing education open the door for the
ongoing development of staff members, which also translates to better
patient care. And he sees a special dedication to safety in athletics that
sets ProRehab apart.
 |
"ProRehab's Certified Athletic Trainers
are known for their care and concern for young athletes," says Bob.
"They regularly reach out to the community with their time and talent,
providing care either for free or below cost." |
| Bob believes this kind of
genuine concern ha enabled ProRehab to become the provider of choice
among local physicians who treat sports-related injuries. And the
continued trust of the medical community has fueled ProRehab's expertise
in the provision of sport-specific services, including custom braces,
splints, and foot orthotics, dynamic biomechanical analysis of overuse
injuries; and programs designed to prevent injury and enhance
performance.
With the merger and the recent addition of other
personnel, the ProRehab staff now comprise 26 Physical Therapist; 10
Occupational Therapist, including 7 Certified Hand Therapists; 18
Certified Athletic Trainers' and 7 Physical Therapy Assistants.
"ProRehab has been successful at attracting the most
qualified and highly accredited people," says Bob. "Ultimately,
it's the personnel that continue to make our organization a great health
care resource for the community." |

Bluecats Choose ProRehab, PC |
| To be Exclusive
Provider of Athletic Training Services |
|
| There's a new
game in town: Professional Indoor Football. And the hometown
team, the Evansville Bluecats, has chosen another hometown team,
ProRehab, to help its players safely bring the excitement of the game to
Evansville fans.
"This is a great opportunity for us to support a local
team and provide its top-notch athletes with high caliber care," says
ProRehab co=owner Bob Tank, PT, ATC. "We're please to have the chance to
work with the Evansville Bluecats, and gratified that they have placed
their trust in us".
Blue cats General Manager Avery Atadero says that
ProRehab has already proven a valuable asset to his franchise.
"During my first day as general manager, I went to Dr.
Goris and asked for his recommendation on who might serve our club's
need for training services". says Avery. "He suggested I talk to
ProRehab".
Avery says a discussion with ProRehab representatives
led to an agreement, and he and his club have been very happy with the
results. |
"We've had no problems," says Avery. "We are very pleased with the
service we het from Del, Dan, Bob, and Pat. They are really good
to work with. We can count on them to be there, to have the
equipment ready, to take care of the details."
Under the agreement, ProRehab will be the exclusive provider of athletic
training services to the Bluecats for the next three year. The key
players on the front lines of the ProRehab team are Dan Baumann, PT,ATC,
CSCS and Del Nance, ATC,PTA, CSCS. Dan and Del have much
experience working with high schoolfootball athletes. Dan's
training experience also includes work with the NFL's St. Louis Rams.
But they both acknowledge that indoor football presents its own set of
treatment challenges. |
 |
|
"The game is played on artificial turf, and many of the
injuries we see are related to the fact that the playing surface has more
grab," say Dan. "Injuries such as turf toe and foot sprain are more
common in this sport than in others. We also see a higher
incidence of knee injuries."To keep the 20+ Bluecat
players functioning safely, Dan and Del are on hand for the twice=weekly
practices. they are also present at the Saturday games, along with
Bob. To ensure the highest possible level of care, the ProRehab team
stays in direct communication with the Bluecat's team physician. Dr. Jim
Goris, who oversees the medical management of the player's care.
"Our primary function as athletic trainers is to prevent
injuries and intervene in the event of an injury", says Del. "We are
licensed and certified to treat orthopedic injuries on site, and we maintain
communication with Dr. Jim Goris as well as rely on his insight."
So far, there have been no major injuries, says Del, a
trend he hopes will continue throughout the sixteen-week playing season.
But, should a serious need for intervention arise, he says the Bluecats are
in capable hands.
"We'll be there," says Del. "And we'll be ready." |

ProRehab Connection Article on Lessening Lower Back Pain |
| Low Back Pain
Management Program at ProRehab, PC |
|
Recently, ProRehab targeted area physicians with a
letter to share information on our Low Back Pain Management Program and
offer them access to this treatment option for their patients. We
want to be sure we get this information out to every one of our
referring physicians.

Dear Doctor,
Low
back pain (LBP) will affect between 60-80% of the population. The
current best evidence shows that up to 90% of these episodes resolve
spontaneously in 4-6 weeks.
Unfortunately, recurrence is common, reported to be between
thirty-five to eighty-five percent. Up to 15 percent of
patients with an acute episode of LBP will go on to suffer chronic
disabling pain. Chronic LBP is disabling, costly, and well
studied. Because recurrence of acute episodes may lead to
chronic disabling LBP, we have devoted time and resources toward
understanding the factors related to recurrence.
Recent
research has demonstrated that specific "local lumbar" muscle
assessment and training techniques significantly reduce a subject's
incidence of recurrence. This random control trial, published
in Spine, showed that those in the control group, who did not
receive this type of intervention, were 12.4 times more likely to
experience a recurrence of acute LBP over a three-year period.
Physical therapists at ProRehab, PC have closely followed this line
of research over the last eight years and recently completed
training in the techniques used in this study.
The intervention in this study utilized real-time ultrasound imaging
to assess the activation and girth of the "Local Lumbar" muscles, as
well as to provide patient biofeedback during training sessions to
confirm adequate muscle activation. We are now offering this
service to our patients as part of our comprehensive LBP
Management Program.
For more
information on our new innovative LBP Management Program please call
476-0409 or visit our website at
www.prorehab-pc.com.
To refer a patient to our program, you can call us with your
referral (476-0409), fax us a referral form (476-1016), or send the
patient directly to us with the referral form.
We will be
conducting our own research on these techniques with the data
collection phase scheduled to begin in the fall of 2003.
An extensive
literature review and details of this evidence-based program are
available upon request.
Sincerely yours,
Kyle Kiesel, MPT, ATC, CSCS
