Wear & Care of Your
Custom Foot Orthotics
Your custom foot orthotics have been
individually designed for your particular foot problem and manufactured in
ProRehab's own Orthotics Lab. The unique design is in accordance with
the recommendations of your referring physician and further based upon the
evaluation of the physical therapist who casted you for them. You will
be provided with your plaster molds that were utilized during the
fabrication of these devices, and we encourage you to keep them in a dry
place, allowing them to air dry over the first week after which time you can
box them up and store them. It is not unusual for patients to
request an additional pair in order to prolong the life of the original pair
an/or better fit into lower profile dress shoes. The cost of an
additional pair is discounted if you bring in your plaster casts.
The full length version of
orthotics which goes all the way to the end of the shoe is the most ideal
type of corrective device and requires that you remove the sock liner that
came within the shoe so as to create enough space to fit the device in.
The orthotics can be trimmed down more narrow and shorter to fit in tighter
fitting shoes, however, this is not recommended. If the patient finds
that they still experience their symptoms when they wear lower profile
dressier shoes, then it is recommended that they get a separate device for
that type of shoe, which will allow more toe space inside the shoe.
