Foot Orthotics

FootProRehab, PC offers an onsite Pedorthics laboratory.

Pedorthics is the design, manufacture, modification, and fit of footwear, including foot orthosis, to alleviate foot problems caused by disease, overuse or injury. Working from your prescription, a Certified Pedorthist alleviates foot problems by fabricating, or modifying shoes and foot orthosis.

Services

  • Custom Orthosis including dress shoe orthosis, combined and integrated with the correct fitting shoe.
  • Shoe Modifications: Footwear can be modified by the addition of heel wedges, lifts, extensions, flares, stabilizers, custom shoes, and 6 different rocker soles. Shoes can be modified to accommodate just about any foot deformity
  • Disease management: For chronic diseases like diabetes or arthritis, prescription orthosis and shoe modifications can be an important part of management of the disease. Prescription footwear has been shown to be a key factor in preventing amputation in diabetic patients. Prescription footwear can mean decreased pain and better support for foot and ankle joints for your arthritic patients.

Wear & Care of Your Custom Foot Orthotics

Your custom foot orthotics have been individually designed for your particular foot problem and manufactured in ProRehab's own Orthotics Lab. The unique design is in accordance with the recommendations of your referring physician and further based upon the evaluation of the physical therapist who casted you for them. You will be provided with your plaster molds that were utilized during the fabrication of these devices, and we encourage you to keep them in a dry place, allowing them to air dry over the first week after which time you can box them up and store them. It is not unusual for patients to request an additional pair in order to prolong the life of the original pair an/or better fit into lower profile dress shoes. The cost of an additional pair is discounted if you bring in your plaster casts.

The full length version of orthotics which goes all the way to the end of the shoe is the most ideal type of corrective device and requires that you remove the sock liner that came within the shoe so as to create enough space to fit the device in. The orthotics can be trimmed down more narrow and shorter to fit in tighter fitting shoes, however, this is not recommended. If the patient finds that they still experience their symptoms when they wear lower profile dressier shoes, then it is recommended that they get a separate device for that type of shoe, which will allow more toe space inside the shoe.

Break-In Period For Your Type of Orthotic

The normal break-in period for this type of orthotic is 7 to 10 days before the patient can expect to be able to wear them full time and experience some relief of their painful symptoms. If you're not having any difficulty during this break-in period, ProRehab certainly encourages you to wear them as much as you can.

IF YOU DO NOT BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE RELIEF FROM YOUR ORTHOTICS OR HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO BUILD UP WEARING THEM FULL TIME WITHIN 10 TO 14 DAYS, YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE PHYSICAL THERAPY OFFICE AND SET UP A RETURN VISIT WITH THE PHYSICAL THERAPIST IN ORDER TO HAVE THEM MODIFIED. DO NOT CONTACT YOUR REFERRING PHYSICIAN DIRECTLY IF YOU ARE MERELY HAVING DIFFICULTY ADJUSTING TO THE ORTHOTIC DEVICES.

The physical therapist who casted you for the orthotics will refer you back to the doctor who initially prescribed them if he/she feels that your condition has not responded to the devices. Please do not attempt to modify the orthotic device yourself. The physical therapist will also discuss the proper shoe gear for work, sports, walking, etc. ProRehab's physical therapists are experts in shoe fit and orthotics, and if you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

The orthotic devices are safe to clean with a damp cloth or any type of household cleaner. They should be allowed to "air dry" rather than being dried wit any type of heat source.

All orthotic devices are custom manufactured by ProRehab.
